GMM Luton (IBC) wage talks

Here we go again, it’s that time of talking about something for the workers. These are the people that are making fortunes for the money obese GM Corporation hierarchy. Despite the constant rise in sales and massive profits its employees are told there must be a zero cost wage award. Corporate greed is limitless and can never be satisfied.

This situation is very sad and the greatest battle facing the Trade Union. We are now in a situation where we have to negotiate with people that have tunnel vision linked to complete inflexibility for the concept of fair play. In essence we have to enter their war of ideology. We representatives of the workers must challenge the Corporations claim that their number one priority is the health and safety of its employees.

It is now obvious that line workers are being abused by the work demanded from them. This is definitely not beneficial to long term good health or safety. It must be argued that their future well being is under very severe threat. It is up to the company to be flexible and allow an independent analysis of the working conditions. Have they got what it takes to meet the basic human needs of its employees? They make non stop demands for flexibility and the satisfaction of their needs.

We want the company to be world class in all areas of its business including the conditions of work and reward for its employees. Sadly, the current situation shows disrespect for human life. Line workers are not flexible objects that are waiting to be battered into shape. Glossy catchphrases linked to so called economic reality are being used to abuse people in a despicable anti social manner, it’s just posh hooliganism.

The high tech presentation of graphs, figures and the written word are the new tools of torture. A slick image linked to big egos with glitzy articulation of the corporate mantra does little to hide the character of an abuser. Now is the opportunity for management to show they are world class in the domain of basic respect for the human beings that make their good life possible. Remember, abuse of others is just plain primitive stupidity dressed up as something progressive and clever. The Trade Union knows that the limits of endurance have already been reached. This knowledge is the essence of our approach to these talks for a sustainable workforce

I once worked for GM in the Luton plant that closed down in 2002. I have moved on into IT and am currently a technical architect with better conditions, respect and 3 times the salary. Who said there isn't life after GM (Vauxhall). Say no to the cheating bosses who want to dance to the tune of their bosses in Detroit. GE lost out as they failed to recognise the talent they have in their work force. Only talentless boot lickers are promoted in that company. Kudos to the workers for rejecting such meager offers.
98.3% rejection.result!!
Over the years a great deal of time has been spend encouraging relationships to grow to feel respected until now, what gone wrong?

One could say, a type of one sided argument with the company being totally unreasonable.
With their first offer on the pay deal, once there was a time when both parties could sit down and form a compromise of a reasonable agreement being formed.
The company has only it self to blame in not fostering good public relations.
