Violation of workers rights at Rayong plant in Thailand?
We received several times serious information from our brothers and sisters of the General Motors Thailand Workers' Union of the plant in Rayong. The union was established in the plant in summer 2006. Their complaints cover similar issues and Management strategies as known from other GM plants around the world. We are still waiting for an updated report to be published here. Let's have look on the letter sent by the union to GM Thailand Management last year in connection with the IMF GM Asia-Pacific conference in Thailand. The reality after the conference seems to be the opposite.

Re : Our Appreciation On Your Coordination
Dear Mr. President,
We would like to express our highly appreciation on your positive respond to our request for leave to attend the IMF-General Motors Asia-Pacific Regional Network Meeting last 13-15 November, 2006; and very much grateful on your presentation including your approval of a plant visit to our colleagues.
We were impressed by your statement that our products are Asbestos free, even our parts-suppliers do not use any Asbestos at all.
We were glad to hear that our GM-Thailand company’s employment policy is and will maintain only 15 per cent sub-contractual workers in the workplace.
We are appealing to you regarding the OHS issue, which you have promised to consider disconnect accident report with variable bonus’ criteria.
We would like to express our most appreciation on your promise that GM-Thailand management will respect basic right of all workers, and will grant some extend of freedom of expression in the workplace.
We would like to thank once again on your commitment to recognize trade union right and will working constructively with the General Motors Thailand Workers’ Union.
