UAW Local 31 is on Strike - Fairfax plant, Kansas City
As of Thursday, May 15, 2008 the Strike still continues.
The Shop Committee and Management are meeting daily. A few minor issues have been addressed, but THE major concerns remain unsolved.
OUR SENIORITY RIGHTS
AS TO JOB SELECTION
AND SHIFT PREFERENCE REMAIN UNSOLVED.
GM still contends that job placement SHOULD be their right without regards to seniority.
WE DON’T
Management also believes that some jobs and their classifications (such as team leaders) should be shift specific. In other words, management will place new transferred team leaders on a shift based on managements desires, not based on seniority.
WE DON’T
UAW Local 31 member’s work that we have done since this plant opened is work that we have negotiated. GM thinks that some of that work (in Material Dept. and Skilled Trades) should be given to other companies with no recourse or plan to replace this work.
WE DON’T
So, because of their attack on our rights we now begin the eighth day.
The Shop Committee realizes the burden that GM has placed on our members and we are meeting every day in an attempt to reach a fair and equitable settlement to this strike. We are appreciative of your show of support and believe that ALL our members of the local union will prevail.
In Solidarity,
John Melton, Shop Chairman
