Solidarity to the CAW from the AMWU

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union supports the CAW and CAW Local 222 in your struggle to prevent the closing of the Oshawa plant. We see GM’s behaviour as a totally unacceptable betrayal of their collective agreement with the CAW. We note and condemn GM’s decision to seek injunctions against workers who are involved in this critical dispute and the CAW as equally despicable. We face the closure of a GM operation here in Melbourne, Australia, and believe this struggle has serious implications for unions everywhere who seek to establish collective agreementswith GM and at the same time challenge their intentions to close or downsize GM plants. We pledge our solidarity with you and will do whatever we can to assist your struggle.
