Newsletter from the T & G Union at IBC Vehicles Ltd in Luton
This letter gave an update on the present state of the wage negotiations. One particular paragraph mentioned the demands of the company.
Also this statement which I will quote here exactly "there's one crucial point; the department you're working in may be earmarked for outsourcing & GMM Luton's future does't necessarily include you" end of quote. Well it's time the Union found out exacly what departments are earmarked for outsourcing, that is why we pay them a lot of money. The company always talks about respect, honesty and integrity. Therefore, they will be happy to be open and honest and eager to prove we work together to win as a team. Ask and you will be told. Would IBC accept any agreement if they did not fully know all the facts and their impact? Of course not, it would be plain stupid to do so. We will show our support for the company by not accepting a mistake.
The Newsletter also mentioned that the two sides are not far apart but the company negotiating team are under pressure from the highest level to strike a deal for minimal cost. This strongly shows that the trade Union is talking to the wrong people. No doubt the company only does deals with the organ grinder not his monkey. Hence there is a good lesson here for the Unions, they must negotiate with those in power. Go to the highest level and take the pressure off the powerless, remember GM prides itself on an open door policy.
