Joint statement by National Union and European Works Council Representatives affiliated to the EMF
The Representatives of the National Unions and the European Employee Forum (EEF) of General Motors Europe who are affiliated to the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) met today in Frankfurt to discuss the plans presented by General Motors Management regarding “productivity improvements” and outsourcing.
They agreed on the following issues:
1. It has been reviewed jointly to what extent the demands by General Motors Europe are part of ongoing local negotiations or existing contracts.This means especially the implementation of the new global compact vehicles (Astra) and the new global midsize vehicles (Vectra successor) and the restructuring of the plant in Antwerp.
2. All measures planned by General Motors Management in addition to that have been rejected unanimously.
3. The initialised European Framework for the Astra plants and for the future of the plant in Antwerp on the one hand and a European Framework on minimum standards on outsourcing on the other hand have to be agreed immediately.
4. No local or national negotiations will be started until these demands have been implemented.
5. The European Economic Committee (EEC) of the European Employee Forum (EEF) will be meet in ca. 3 weeks with all affected plants and GM Management for further consultation.
