IBC Luton Latest
Now that we are all standardised globally its easy to understand working life at IBC Luton.
Over many years GM workers in the UK have been constantly told how to secure their jobs and be world class. Firstly it was follow the German way. Then it was the Japanese way, both of these ways are now out of favour. Today, workers have to face fierce global competition for jobs. Within GM each plant has to fight for work. There is a type of civil war going on within GM where workers compete with each other. Yet, GM likes to represent itself as a family group.
It seems to be a very dysfunctional family, the parents totally exploit the children. Some are kicked out of the family even when the children are very high achievers, remember Vauxhall Motors in Luton.
We still have the IBC family which is now well on the way to imposing inhuman working conditions along with a massive head count reduction. The constant unrelenting mental and physical demands of line work are testimony to incredible human endurance. This must be all wrong?
How could anyone think or believe this of IBC which has its workers Health and Safety as its number one overriding priority. Have you ever seen the results of a health audit of working conditions on your team board. Why is it not part of the metrics for the Business Deployment Plan. Is the way you work a healthy way or a cause for ‘GRAVE’ concern in the long term? ‘REST’ assured, your union is fighting so hard for cheap funerals.
Why not ask for an independent professional health impact check of working conditions at IBC. The degree of IBC concern for your health will make the management happy to help. No doubt they will also claim that if IBC is not competitive and matching the efficiency of the competition then it is the end of the road. Ford, Toyota, Renault Nissan etc tell their workers the same story. It is now time that collective corporate abuse is challenged. Those that impose such unhealthy working conditions would not survive a day on the line. Ask others to do what you would ask of yourself.
The company wants you to think that there is no other way but when they have a problem there is a problem solving process. So, why not have a process for solving inhuman working conditions. Is Continuous Improvement just for the company. Do line workers not have aims, principles and cultural priorities like living long enough to play with grandchildren. Be fully aware that the trade unions are constantly working on these issues, just ask your shop steward for all the details. Only healthy workers can be worn out from overwork and stress. If you want to stay healthy and live for a normal stretch, reject inhuman conditions of work. If you want to be used and abused by the Mammy and Daddy of the IBC family accept your lot.
Concern for your health must rank as the greatest illusion trick of all time. Yes I’ve Been Conned (IBC) have you?
