GM Powertrain Södertälje
21. February 2007: GM Powertrain Södertälje – aquiration of the plant by Scania – job offer to all employees of the plant
Scania published a press release that they undersigned a memorandum of understanding with GM Powertrain to aquire the powertrain plant in Södertälje to increase its production capacity for engine components and injection systems.
„Scania will offer all employees at the GM Powertrain production plant employment at Scania. Scania will by that gain access to personnel with long experience of engine manufacture“ (Scania Newsletter 2007-02-21).
Scania plans to start production at the powertrain plant in 2009 and it looks like it will be a step by step takeover. The Scania production shall increase in the same amount as GM reduces its production volume at the plant.
Currently the Powertrain plants of GM are under high pressure due to volume reduction plans of GM.
GM’s Powertrain plants in Europe are located in: Gothenburg, Södertälje (Sweden); Kaiserslautern, Bochum, Rüsselsheim (Germany); Strasbourg (France), Bielsko-Biala, Tychy (Poland – both joint ventures with Fiat); Szentgotthard (Hungary) and Aspern (Austria).
