GM Daewoo unionists to continue partial strike over pay - Yonhap News Agency
INCHEON, July 18 (Yonhap)-- Unionized workers at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co., South Korea's third-largest automaker, said they will continue a two-day partial strike from Thursday after talks on a pay hike collapsed.
The union and management of GM Daewoo, controlled by U.S. auto giant General Motors Corp., held the eighth round of negotiations to hammer out differences earlier in the day but failed to reach an agreement, the labor union said.
Workers held a partial strike for the second day on Wednesday after they launched the first four-hour walkout on Monday. The labor union said that workers laid down their tools from 10:00 a.m. for the four-hour partial strike.
The union, which has a membership of 9,500, is demanding an 8.8 percent increase in base salary and a 400 percent bonus increase.
The two sides are to meet again Thursday to discuss ways of solving the pay dispute, the union said, adding that it will abstain from an all-out strike.
