Global outsourcing at GM, information exchange needed!"

In Korea and South Africa the unions are struggling with the outsourcing plans of Gm regarding the IT departments (please read the information given by Korean Metalworkers' union).

"On a different topic, GM-Daewoo is apparently trying to outsource the " IT department " , who are the union members who do upkeep on the phone and communications systems. The management tells us that all over the world, GM is outsourcing IT to AT&T. Is this true ? "

In South Africa the P&A department (warehouse) is also on the list for outsourcing by GM. In Europe most of the warehouses have been a spin-off to Catlogistics (a subsidiary of Caterpillar), the IT department haven been also a spin-off for years (EDS, 1987). Only the IS&S departments at the Engineering Center, headquarters and plant is still inhouse doing work like coordination of the outsourced IT work, training and implementation of software/updates.

In Europe the plant protection should be outsourced to Securitas because of a global contract of GM, but in most of the European plants the plant protection have been outsourced for years (with the exception of Germany and some other plants). Currently, the most important outsourcing issue in Europe is the following:

All Facility management (FM) departments according to the WFG template of GM (Worldwide Facility Group), especially the Delta plants have been under pressure by the so-called "Global Delta Pre-Requisites).

Cockpit (Dash panel) and door modules should be outsourced by GM in Europe, mainly driven by the "Global Delta Pre-Requisites", but not only limited tot the Delta plants.

It would be helpful to get an overview what is going on with this global templates of GM in the different GM regions at every location.
