Conference "The Delta Case: A site selection process at General Motors Europe

A conference on Transeuropean employee cooperation within a multinational company will be held in Frankfurt at IG Metall headquarters on July 4-5.

What is Delta and what is GMEECO?

In 2005 the European Works Council of GME - The European Employee Forum (EEF) - correctly anticipated that the Management of GME planned a new site selection process for future production of the "Delta"-platform cars (Astra/Zafira). They responded by laying the foundation for the "Joint Delta Working Group" (JWDG) comprising members of national Works Councils and national Unions with clear intent to carry out a process of harmonizing the activities of employees representatives at a European level and with a clear view to opposing any form of internal competition. The primary aims and objectives of the group were to create more capacity internally within General Motors Europe coupled a common policy and strategy for fair distribution of production capacities and to negotiate a European Framework Agreement embracing these points.

The EU-funded project "General Motors Europe Employees Cooperation" (GMEECO), organized by IG Metall, afforded the possibility to work towards achieving these aims through supplying the required capacities, resources and budget.

Despite the fact that the negotiations with General Motors Europe are still going on the GMEECO project is running out in August.

What are the aims of the conference?

One intention is to conduct a full analysis into wether the original aims and objectives have been reached, with further discussion on the results of GMEECO (the EU-funded project) in general. This would not only be from the perspective of the Delta-plants but also from the perspective of all the GME plants in Europe. Another aim is to think about conclusions and demands fro the future Europeanization of works councils and unions.

Who is invited?

Participants to this conference will be the Joint Delta Working Group, the EEF and represenatives of all GME sites. This will also include one representative from the Russian plant.

We further plan to include EMF; IMF and unions representatives along with representatives of different Directorates-General of the European Unions and experts.

I don't think so. Bochum works council thinks he is smart, doing a lot of outsourcing and lying about situation in other GM plants. But nobody saw a contract for future safety. GM can easily play with that kind of unionists. Bochum lives from its past (resistance, strikes..) Nothing is left. GM will enjoy it.
Don't fotget Bochum ALWAYS win!!!
We know...
Greatings from Opel Antwerp
GREAT! But could anyone tell me what is going in Bochum? I heard from a guy from the body shop that the works council is agreeing to everything what Management is asking for and try to sell it as a smart way to save jobs. How many jobs will be left at our plant when this is over?? 3.000? 2.000? Easy to close then, good luck!
