Comment on Ellesmere Port ballot

We can understand the frustrations our GMM Ellesmere workers face; the continued demand for product & profit from GME is placed firmly at the feet of the workers who put the vehicles together with their colleagues in maintenance, logistics & other hardworking areas. Most of them understand that it is not the trade unions who make these ever-increasing demands. GME do. However, for some reason, a minority of GME's frustrated employees will still point the finger at the trade unions...

No GME plant's trade union will build a wall to reject a future product; especially one that has already lost a shift & has a workforce in fear of their future.

One key element missing from GM is a long term commitment to its European workforce.

We're not a Delta plant but we are aware of the huge problems faced by the workers & their respective trade union representatives in these difficult years & the TU reps here in Luton do not envy the task our TU colleagues in the north have had to endure.

We have no problem commending all those involved for Delta site selection (on the TU side) in trying to find the delicate balance between possible closure & work/life balance whilst maintaining the European spirit.

Keep fighting the fight John, Phil & all other European Representatives.

R. and G., Luton GM plant, UK
