Canadian Autoworkers Union: Manufacturing matters: March and Rally, June 1
On Sunday June 1, CAW members in Oshawa and the surrounding area will take to the streets nearby the riding of federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, demanding immediate government action to stop manufacturing job loss. All local union members, family, friends, neighbours and community allies are encouraged to attend.
The march will kick off at the Midtown Mall parking lot at 11:00am. The group will depart from the Midtown Mall and march up John Street for a mass rally at Memorial Park.
CAW Local 222 President Chris Buckley said that the march and rally are important opportunities to join with one voice to demand that the federal government end its complacency and act now to stop manufacturing job loss and reverse its devastating effects.
Whether we realize it or not this is a problem that affects us all, said Buckley. “We continue to bleed good-paying manufacturing jobs and it is time for us to send a strong message to our government that manufacturing matters.”
Since 2002, 350,000 Canadian manufacturing jobs have been lost. All members are urged to join in sending a message to the Canadian government that citizens will not tolerate the dismantling of the country’s manufacturing sector.
