Protest at GM Strasbourg Powertrain plant in France
Yesterday, information meetings were held at the GM Strasbourg plant in France which each of the unions represented at the plant had organized to provide the status of negotiations and the strong opposition to the planned job redundancies of 168.
The production lines were stopped and the GM workers attended the union meetings in the plant. The step of GM Management to set up the legal process for job redundancies according to the French law was a clear break of the commitment with the European Works Council of GM (EEF) during the last meeting not to implement any measures on the local level until a next meeting would have happened. The planned dismissal of 168 workers is a kind of offense to the French unions and workers because GM shows no willingness to offer any product commitments for the longterm future of the plant. At the next meeting of the EEF on June 2 and 3 in Rüsselsheim the European Works Council will focus on the future of the Powertrain plants (engines and transmissions) and the plant in Luton, UK (Vivaro).
